- Flat-fee will engagement. Most Ohio estate planning is predictable. A flat fee tells you the attorney is confident and you the client is protected.
- Plain-English explanations. If you cannot understand the conversation, the documents will not be right.
- Ohio-specific knowledge. State law varies. Avoid lawyers who default to generic templates.
- Communication cadence. Ask how they handle urgent calls. Estate questions do not always wait for business hours.
- No-pressure consult. Initial consultations should be free or under $100. If they push you to engage on the first call, that is a flag.
- Reviews from people, not lawyers. Avvo and Martindale reviews from clients matter more than peer ratings.
